Significance of Morphogenetic Informative Variants in Genetic Evaluation of Mental Retardation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We evaluated the presence or absence of informative morphogenetic variants in cases with mental retardation compared with mentally healthy subjects. Cases diagnosed with mental retardation were matched by age and sex with control subjects and examined for the presence of informative morphogenetic variants. The aim of the study was to investigate their prevalence and mean number in these subjects. Mentally healthy individuals showed a lower mean score than those mentally retarded. A higher mean number was also noticed in cases with idiopathic and in those with severe mental retardation. The increased number of anomalies in these cases suggests that such congenital markers could indicate a prenatal onset of the mental deficit.

Molecular study of a consanguineous family with autosomal recessive mental retardation and speech disorder
Mental retardation (MR) is one of the most frequently found major genetic disorders around the world, affecting 1-3% of the people in the general population. The recent advancement in molecular biology and cytogenetic study has made possible the identification of new genes for a variety of genetic disorders including autosomal recessive MR. Recessive genetic disorders are common in Pakistan due...

Objective: About 50% of severe to profound intellectual disabilities (ID) are caused by genetic factors. In this study we decided to investigate the genetic causes of ID in 69 Bushehrian families to provide information for genetic counseling, carrier detection, and prenatal diagnosis. Materials & Methods: In this study we excluded known chromosomal abnormalities. The majority of families had...
